Whiskey Pick Wednesday
Today's whiskey pick is a bourbon - of course. Let's be honest... that's what we are digging right now. The smokey vanilla musky taste of delicious bourbon - on ice for me.
We found this bourbon at The Dram. I took my husband, Nick, to the Dram for some drinks and appetizers with some of our friends and family. If you like to see what you're paying for when you order drinks, don't go here because they do not list prices on their drink list. I made the mistake of ordering some Stagg, Jr. - $25 a pour. Yikes! But I digress.... my husband tried some Michter's and fell in deep.
So this post is dedicated to his love - Michter's Bourbon.
Here's some history for you because you know, bourbon is dripping in history. Michter's was founded in 1753 in Schaefferstown, PA. Legend has it that during the Revolutionary War ol' George Washington - the future Prez - purchased some Michter's rye for his men during the winter to keep them warm. In 1990, Michter's was resurrected in Kentucky - the home of some good delicious bourbon and today, operates out of Shively, KY.
Let's go to the tasting notes now. The Michter's we found is a small batch bourbon (91.4 proof) which means that it's a whiskey produced by mixing contents of a small selection of barrels. It's a smooth bourbon with "cinnamon-like" bite and has a sweet corn taste with notes of caramel and vanilla. I love it with a few cubes of ice - but that's the way I enjoy it. Nick drinks it neat. No mixing for him.
Give it a try and let us know what you think! Even if you don't really like it, I would love to hear why. I'm still pretty new at the whole tasting thing. So tonight we sipped on a nice pour before bed. Enjoy!
